NOT THE CHANGE I EXPECTED

“Change” is the platform our now newly double-sworn-in President Barrack Obama campaigned on, and to which America responded in droves.

We all thirst for our lives to be better, to change our circumstances or perhaps change the way we look; maybe even the way others see us.

I didn’t put too much stock in his speeches and promises for I have learned first hand that this sentiment is nothing new. Be it good or bad, things are always changing.

Life is constantly about change. I liken it to a railroad car on a long, endless track, that allows people to get on, or get off, leading us to wherever we are supposed to be at that particular time in our lives. Our course is charted, and our changes are unique to us alone. No one has the power to stop the train.

This week has been monumental in more ways than one.

A black man was sworn in as the 44th President.

A good friend gave birth on Inaguration Day to a desperately wanted baby girl, her first, and her life has certainly changed.

A dear and close friend lost her husband this morning. Passing at age 55, he was a friend to all of us. The heartache and the pain she has endured during his illness seemed unfair and frustrating – but she has handled his illness with grace and reverence through out the six month ordeal.

Her life has certainly changed forever. Ours has as well.

So I will sit and listen to one of my favorite songs, the one that touches my heart and move me deep inside. Written by Curtis Mayfield in 1964, marveling how appropriate the lyrics are today. I will pray for her and for him, finally at peace.

People get ready

Theres a train a-coming

You dont need no baggage

You just get on board

All you need is faith

To hear the diesels humming

Dont need no ticket

You just thank the lord

People get ready

For the train to jordan

Picking up passengers

From coast to coast

Faith is the key

Open the doors and board them

Theres room for all

May you always be open to the changes in your life, no matter how wonderful or tortuously sad. Although my heart aches for my friend, she is at peace.

Find a good seat and Thank the Lord.
