SERIOUSLY.......

From a Weight Watchers internet blurb:

"Burgers and dogs can be boring, and they're often not the healthiest choice. So why not try something new and grill up some chicken breasts, lamb chops, lean pork loin or fish steaks this Memorial Day? It's easy to spice them up with one of our eight rub recipes. They're a low-cost, high-impact way to add flavor before the fire."

"Fish steaks" on Memorial Day? Are they kidding? That's blasphemous. And un-American.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. While Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966, it's difficult to prove conclusively the origins of the day. It is more likely that it had many separate beginnings; each of those towns and every planned or spontaneous gathering of people to honor the war dead in the 1860's tapped into the general human need to honor our dead, but what is important is that Memorial Day was established. Memorial Day is not about division. It is about reconciliation; it is about coming together to honor those who gave their all. I can see doing the chicken breasts, and even the lamb chops.

But it doesn't see quite right to NOT have a hamburger and a hot dog on this great day of tribute.

And it is certainly NOT boring.

Pass the mustard.
