HEAVEN'S ANGEL, GONE HOME

We all lost an angel this week. Ronni Vaughn Steves has passed away, her valiant two and a half year struggle with Ewings sarcoma, an extremely rare childhood cancer, finally over. Countless hours of treatments and visits to Bethesda Hospital and Rochester General were paid, never dampening the spirit of this young woman.

I had the privilege of interviewing Ronni last October, when she was presented with a 1969 Dodge Charger by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Although missing the necessary engine and motor, it was Ronni’s desire to receive this vehicle, (the same as the General Lee in the 1980’s hit Dukes of Hazzard t.v. show) so she and her father could restore it together. She was as excited as any fifteen year old could be, with eyes fixed on the future and seeing it to completion.

I can’t really say anything else about this sad turn of events, for that was the only day I spent with Ronni. I do not know her family, and only contributed to several fundraising events in her name. What I can say is that it has always been obvious to see she was surrounded by a community who loved her, and cared about her and her family.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to them now, as we pray together as a community for understanding and peace.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8 at 12:00 (Noon) at Williamson Middle School, 4184 Miller Street, Williamson, NY 14589. Arrangements by Young Funeral Home (315) 589-6231. Please do not send flowers; if you wish, donations can be made in Ronni's name to the Wayne County Children's Cancer Fund, WCCCF, PO Box 61,Sodus, NY 14551. (www.waynecountykids.com
